Jamal is a veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom and currently serves in the U.S. Navy Reserve, bringing a wealth of experience from his roles in the military, higher education, public service, and business.

A University of Florida Hall of Fame inductee, Jamal has held numerous prestigious roles throughout his career, including Florida’s Secretary of Commerce and President & CEO of Enterprise Florida, Inc., where he worked closely with private-sector businesses and economic partners to strengthen Florida’s economy. His leadership also earned him a position as Special Assistant to UF President Dr. Bernie Machen, as well as key roles in public service, law, and higher education. Jamal’s leadership journey is one of dedication, service, and excellence, from his time as a Marine Corps Captain to his influential work in Florida’s economic development. His experiences navigating the intersections of military service, higher education, politics, and business make him an inspiring figure who embodies resilience and leadership in action.
